Johne Richardson, a native of Kansas, has always been deeply connected to the expansive prairies, big skies, and rich history of the American West. Growing up with a passion for cowboys and the vast landscapes of his home state, he channeled these inspirations into a distinguished art career. 

For over three decades, Johne has honed his craft as a successful illustrator and educator. His journey in art began with watercolors, transitioned to acrylics, and ultimately has led him to work with oils on large canvases. This evolution in medium has allowed him to capture the subtle contours of cowboy hats, the sturdy silhouettes of cattle, and the dramatic skies that define the the American West. His paintings are characterized by bold shapes, vibrant colors, and dynamic compositions that often transcend the boundaries of the canvas. 

Futhermore, Johne's work is a testament to his deep affection for the light and landscapes of the prairie in the Flint Hills. In pursuit of his paintings, Johne embarks on quests to witness breathtaking sunrises, observe cattle grazing on ridges, and experience mountains painted in hues of blue. His art captures intensely personal and fleeting moments, inviting views to experience the same joy he finds in creating them. 

Through his evocative art, Johne continues to celebrate the enduring spirit of the American West, offering a sense of place and mood, resonating with viewers and offering a glimpse into the landscapes and lives that have shaped his artistic vision. Johne's work is featured at the Leopold Gallery as well as galleries in the Southwest and Montana.
